LEE MATTHEWS is a filmmaker passionate about producing engaging, entertaining screen content. He has some 15 short films under his belt and three broadcast documentaries. He is the associate producer on tCC’s first feature film ‘The Heckler’ and has just completed his first agency-funded full budget feature film ‘Emo (the musical). He has a number of other feature films and TV concepts currently in development including Ben Plazzer’s second feature film.
With a 2010 postgraduate diploma in Film & Television (Producing) from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) his film work has had him partner with industry stalwarts and rising stars including: Samuel Johnson; Tom Long; Arthur Angel; Totti Goldsmith; Osamah Sami; Michael McMahon, Edward Goldner; Jenni Meaney and Ellery Ryan ACS.
In 2011 he was accepted into SPAA’s emerging producer program, and has since been commissioned by the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) and has had a number of projects funded by Film Victoria and Screen Australia.
His short film work has enjoyed great success on the international festival circuit, including the short film version of 'Emo (the musical)'. which was awarded 'special mention' the runner up to the crystal bear for best short film, at the 2014 Berlinale. Emo went on to rave reviews and other awards at Edinburgh, Palm Springs, Rhode Island, Vancouver, Hamburg and locally with St Kilda, Adelaide Shorts, Rev Perth, Canberra and Dungog.
Prior to filmmaking, Lee has a long history in arts funding and festivals management. His professional business credits (to name a few) include managing and producing the Melbourne Midsumma Festival as well as Queer Screen's Sydney Mardi Gras Film Festival. Before that he was completely bored by a decade's experience in banking and int'l trade.
